Plus size models protest at Fashion Week

After being shut out of this years Rosemount Australian Fashion Week, plus size models rallied together to peacefully protest.  The models wore shirts saying things like "We <3 real women" and "I <3 my curves"

Designer Alex Perry was defiant about his right to choose what type of model to use.  "Nobody is going to tell me how to pick models."

And no one should be able to.

Spring Trend: Soft

The 'soft' trend can be used for any article of clothing or accessory.  Try jersey, cashmere, or even silk.  (or even a blend that feels similar, for those of us with a tight budget)

  •  Pair a feathery skirt with a tailored jacket
  • An elaborate neckline with a straight mini
  • A grounded edgy shoe

Where you can find your soft items:

This pintuck shell would look great under a soft cardigan

This is the hot new tap silhouette that offers a softer and dressier feel than jeans

Evans is a really great place to find trendy plus size clothes (and even wide shoes) but unfortunately it is in the UK so you have to order online.

Plans for the Week

This week I want to take some of Springs major trends. I even slapped together some sloppy hotsheets for examples (I don't have photoshop unfortunately)of the trends and where you can purchase something of your own.

Plus-Size Models on the Runway

I wanted to post this when it was....relevant, but I didn't have a blog then. So, here it is now. =)

Remember when Canadian designer Mark Fast told his staff that he was going to use 3 women who were sizes 10-12 in his runway show and 2 members of his team quit 'in disgust'?

Well this year he came back bigger and better. Fast used several "plus-size" (real size) women who walked along side the usual runway models.

What do you think about using real women in fashion ads and on the runway?

The right shape for Prom

Choosing a prom dress is one of the biggest decisions you have to make your junior and senior year (apart from college, of course). Finding the right dress for yourself should include a couple of factors.

First, do some research and see what is out there. See something in a magazine you like? Cut it out and take it to the dress shop with you. When choosing a color, keep in mind colors that compliment your hair color and skin tone.

Accentuate what you like about your body. If you have great shoulders, show them off. Like your hips? Maybe a more form fitting dress would be best for you.

Taking a couple girlfriends with you (good decision making friends, specifically) can help you make a decision. If you take a camera with you they can take a pictures of the good options for you to see. Sometimes things look different when you get a different perspective. But don't forget the 3 way mirrors, you need to see what it looks like from all angles.

Don't be afraid to use the sales associate. Show them a picture of what you think you want and she can bring similar styles.

Ultimately go with the one you HAVE to have. Don't get pushed into a choice.

Finding the Right Suit for Your Body

Well ladies it's just around the corner. It's not Christmas, your birthday or Oprah's Favorite Things....it's bikini season. Everyone is always talking about losing that extra "10 lbs" to get into their bikini (you know, your rail thin co-worker/friend that never shuts up) but what we need to worry about is knowing what works with our bodies.

One important thing to keep in mind is that swimsuits aren't measured like the typical garment and you may need to go up a size or two. (Breath) The better it fits, the better you look. When you find the swimsuit you have to have, make sure you can move in it comfortably so it doesn't ride up or bunch awkwardly.

Everyone is shaped differently and thus needs to choose the correct coverage and support.

A great website to check out:
